Governing Agility - Humanity is the Cornerstone

Blog Details Image

The final stanchion to consider is humanity, we deem this the cornerstone of agile governance. Too often the methods of governing the system are mechanistic focussed rather than humanistic or if you like another way to state that is “ processes and tools over Individuals and interactions “

Traditional governance, as we have discussed previously, seeks to achieve outcomes by applying mechanistic controls such as process, standardisation, phase gating, micro-task allocation and management.

Humans however will always remain the blip in the radar, the ghosts in the machine when it comes to this mechanistic approach and therefore these approaches fail or at best are far from satisfactory.

Agility seeks to inject the people into the work and how they do it in order to enable those who do the work to become the true governance custodians of the system.

This doesn’t mean we don’t have any oversight or don’t check instead we employ different ways of understanding, to use a russian quote “Doveray, no Proveryai” ; “we trust but verify”.

We trust our people and in the true Conductive leadership style, we trust them with full ownership and the right guide rails and they will provide us with intent and the information to make the right directional decisions.
